GALAXY JACKET - Part 3: The Winter Layering Piece I Didn't Know I Needed!

Hat: NYC street vendor; Turtleneck sweater: Uniqlo; Jeans: True Bias Lander Pants; Sparkle socks: H&M; Shoes: Vans (gifted); Bag: Prime Cut Bags

I have previously written about planning this jacket project, and a second post on all the details and special features of this jacket. It felt so good to finish this one. As soon as it was finished, I wore it was to the dentist - my third visit to the dentist in three weeks. I bought the lining and the buttons in the city on days I went to the dentist, so the activities were really intertwined….which actually probably explains why I didn’t love sewing this jacket. I was in pain. It felt good to wrap it all up: finish the difficult sewing project and get a new crown. Everything sorted!

The jacket is a more masculine silhouette than most of my outerwear pieces, and it’s shorter, too. It’s a fantastic layering piece, and thanks to the quilted lining and high neckline, it is surprisingly warm! Oh, and I added a little faux shearling detachable collar, because I can’t resist a bit of fluff at by neck. I love that it is black and therefore easy to make outfits with, but has texture and special details that make it enjoyable to wear (big buttons, big pockets!).

Here are a bunch of photos of my finished jacket - if you click on the smaller ones, they will enlarge. Are you sewing a shirt-jacket this year? If so, what pattern will you use? I bet you’ll love wearing it. XO, Martha
